B/W and Sepia Portrait Photography

Per our discussion in class regarding B/W and sepia portrait photography. You might also want to do a key word search on the subject. Remember your setting on the camera and take notes on what work and what didn't. The images below will serve as examples. All images below are teacher examples and borrowed from the www.

Stop Motion Videos High School Art Project

For this project I'm giving my wife, Ana (the elementary art teacher of the family) credit for this project. She came home one afternoon and showed me all the cool simple stop motion videos she had her students make. I thought my students could also benefit form this type of project, so I came up with a master plan.

Most of the videos were shot using iPad 2 or 3 (iStopMotion or iMotion HD app) and edited it in iMovie. One student shot his short with a 35mm camera. Backgrounds were made and voiceovers/soundtrack applied. I ask that there be an into and ending credits. Most students worked in groups of 2-3. It was trial run with this project and the next time I teach it I will make some modifications so that it runs smoother for my students. We all have to start somewhere...

Click on the link to watch the shorts. More will be added once they are submitted.

Background results

I will admit that I liked the backgrounds better than the final product. I had students experiment with contrasting and analogous colors when creating the faces. I felt that the faces for the most part were overly cartoonish and at times crowded or crammed in the space. There objectives for the project were minimal, I was more interested in seeing how the students interpreted my ideas, being this is my first attempt at this project. In the end I felt like the students had the opportunity to try out new concepts such as cropping and managing space with the faces.

Oil Pastel Dance scenes

I thought that I had lost these images after erasing a memory card, little did I know they were hidden in a folder at work. These projects were made at the beginning of the year when we studied the human figure and movement. My students did several life drawings in their sketchbooks and while some of that is reflected in the projects below, most of the ideas expressed here comes from a romanticized notions about dancing. Enjoy.

Backgrounds painting HS art

I wanted to wish any and everyone who follows or stumbles upon this blog Happy Holidays. This will be my last posting until mid-Jan unless the world ends on DEC 21, 2012…has a time zone been determined for that event yet?

Crop circles are cool as are line designs, don’t let anyone tell you differently. We are currently on step one-the background to our next painting. If you are interested in the art concepts we are using look at the labels/tags at the bottom of this posting. Truth be told a few of my kids expressed concern about painting on top of their backgrounds and are content to leave them be. Sadly, I won’t be able to honor their request. Final results coming soon.

In the meanwhile be kind to each other-stop the hate, stop the violence, and treat each other with respect...everywhere please.
